Health Care Institute
The Health Care Institute (HCI) provides trainingand employment opportunities for entry level workers, health care professionals and paraprofessionals to gain new medical job-related information, clinical experience and updated computer and Distant Learning skills enabling them to retain jobs, advance their careers and expand career opportunities. HCI responds to the needs in the industry by customizing programs for institutions and giving workers opportunities to prevent layoff and secure jobs, and upgrade employment.
Services We Provide
The HCI designs and implements training programs to meet the employment and educational needs of union members and incoming workers in the changing world of healthcare provision. HCI offers 108 classroom-based and distance learning courses in 20 job title categories that enable students to enter or upgrade their position in the health care industry.
In collaboration with unions and medical institutions in all of the five boroughs (as well as in upstate New York and Westchester), including 1199, SEIU, DC 37, Health and Hospital Corporation.
HCI’s course offerings include those leading to the following careers:
Certified Surgical Technician(" Students must be referred by their union"); Peri-Operative Associate ( CSPD) , Peri-Operative Nursing, Critical Care Nursing, CCRN , Progressive Nursing, Associate Degree Registered Nursing, Certified Nursing Assistant , Rehabilitation Aides, Ventilator technicians, ICU technicians, Mental Health Aides, Certified Medical Assistant, Patient Care Associate / Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Obstetrics and Gynecological Technician, Medical Secretary, Billing and Coding Technicians, Business Associate and Home Attendant.

The National Health Careers Association (NHA) and/or John’s Hopkins University. Association of surgical technicians (AST), Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program(CAAHEP), Association of Perioperative Registered Nurse ( AORN) , National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) CSPD, CCRN Certification through American Assoc. of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) and NYSDOH NA Certification.
